Roy W. Turner, a native of Tipton County Tennessee, began his farming operation in 1929 at the age of 20. The Turner herd began with three heifers and a bull which a neighbor let them keep on a share basis and grew into a herd of approximately 80 producing cows. The Turner family has been active in the Angus business and Tennessee Angus Association since 1933.
Roy was active in many aspects for the Angus business. He served as Secretary of the Tri State Angus Association for 13 years during which time the association conducted 15 show and sales. He was past President of the Tennessee Angus Association. He served for many years on the livestock committee for the Mid-South Fair. On March 12, 1975, he held his twentieth annual production sale at Turner Angus Farm. The Roy W. Turner family of Covington, TN was selected as the “1976 Family of the Year”.
Aside from his cattle interest, Roy was active in county and state activities. He was the longest serving president of the Tipton County Farm Bureau for over 50 years and a member of the State Farm Bureau Insurance board beginning in 1958. He served as a member of the county court for 12 years. He was a member of the board of directors of Tipton County Bank for 18 years. He was an honorary member of University of Tennessee Block and Bridle Club and was elected to the hall of fame of that club in 1956. He served as president of the Tipton County Livestock Association and was a Tennessee delegate to the National Angus Convention.
Roy and Mildred were married in 1929. Mrs. Turner was the former Mildred Catherine Peeler of Garland, Tennessee. Roy and Mildred had seven sons, all of whom were involved in the Angus Business at one time.
